Re: Live from...the Yahoo! Canada Search Marketing launch
Stuart... is there a link... what does this mean? You pay to search? You pay to get your results higher in the search results? Thanks...

There's a bit of a hint at the current YSM login page. At the bottom, it says: "The new Sponsored Search will first be available in the U.S. and Canada market only."
I know that the new version will have geo-targeting, while the old one didn't. So maybe that's how it's being "Canadianized"? I don't know...but hopefully we'll find out soon. Now if only they would offer the Yahoo Publisher Network to us Canucks! Re: Re: Live from...the Yahoo! Canada Search Marketing launch

Oops...I meant to also comment on Martin's question, but forgot. :-) Yahoo Search Marketing is similar to AdWords from Google -- advertisers pay to have sponsored listings above and to the right of natural search results on Yahoo.com and their partner websites. It's the "pay per click" stuff, as it's known in the search engine marketing industry.
Re: Re: Live from...the Yahoo! Canada Search Marketing launch
Hi Martin,
It's basically Y! allowing geo-targetting for Canada in paid search results (those top-of-the-search-return links, or sometimes on the side; you know the "sponsored links"). There are more bells and whistles, but that's the big news. Google has things along these lines this for quite some time. Which might have something to do with why Google is so dominant, why search as a "media" is underdeveloped in Canada, and why Y! is adding this feature now. Trackbacks
